RAW MATERIAL

The wheel is directly related to the reliability & safety of the vehicle to which it is fitted and its strength and quality are fundamental to the cars ultimate performance.

The use of primary aluminium prevents impurity and offers the optimum conditions for the casting process.

The alloy used by SPATH is the result of many years experience in evaluating the “properties” required to give the best performance in tensile strength and stress resistance.

SPATH Laboratory is continually analysing all new supplies of raw materials, to ensure they meet its exacting.

PROJECT & DESIGN

SPATH is very much aware of the technical innovation required in the development of each new project and takes account of the latest technology available.

SPATH technical & design Team is supported by the latest “Computer-Aided-Design” system (CAD-CAM).

This powerful computer allows the designer more flexibility and freedom and not only assures greater accuracy, but can produce working drawings in a matter of hours instead of days.

CAD-CAM can also diagnose and evaluate the stress areas of each design and make modifications prior to mould construction.

PRODUCTION

The production of SPATH is organised as follows:

Die casting by gravity process, using programmed shell moulding machines with automatic robotic arms, which pour the molten alloy. This enables the stable and continuous “pouring” of the metal, to ensure a perfect casting every time.

The machine is carried our by N.C. Computer controlled lathes, which give a consistent dimensional accuracy which allows SPATH to achieve a high level of productivity, but allowing the flexibility of a wide and varied choice of finishes.

PAINTING SYSTEM

SPATH takes special care in the finishing of its product and uses the latest preparation and painting system.

Before painting, the wheels enter a surface treatment tunnel to protect the metal and processes carried out include: degreasing phosphorchromatation and rinsing with the de-mineralised water.  The painting and lacquering process varies between using the powdered and liquid techniques. Thanks to the high standard maintained throughout their manufacture, SPATH wheels are renowned for both quality & reliability and are committed to further development and expansion.

QUALITY CONTROL

A final inspection every wheel (100%) undergoes both a tubeless and X Ray test.

At each stage during manufacture random testing is carried out using the latest equipment covering fatigue (bending stress test) impact & rolling testing, penetrating liquid test and dimensional checks using the very accurate computerised measuring equipment.

ADVANTAGES

Lighter than the steel wheels, light alloy wheels absorb much better the suspensions and shock absorber working stresses, with a consequent better road adherence and holding.

Having a higher heat absorption, they also allow a longer tyre life
